Cephalanthus occidentalis, (commonly known as Common Buttonbush, Button Willow, Honey Bells, Honeyballs, among others) is a native deciduous shrub ideal for Midwest gardens. This plant features spherical clusters of fragrant, creamy-white, button-like flowers that bloom in summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and birds. Its glossy, dark green foliage adds to its ornamental appeal, turning a vibrant yellow in fall. Thriving in wet to moist soils, it's well-suited for rain gardens or near water features. With a compact habit and a maximum height of 6-12 feet, Common Buttonbush is a low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly choice for enhancing biodiversity in Midwest landscapes.
