Peony

The peony, a flower that brings to mind old homesteads and country living, is the state flower of Indiana.

Though the peony is native to Asia, many old farmsteads in Indiana can be seen with flowering poofs of white and pink in the middle of spring. That is because the peony can live to be nearly 100 years old. Its root system is deep and entrenched in the soil, so if you ever want to transplant it, it may give you a struggle. The blooms come in a variety of colors from deep magenta, to various pink shades, and white.
